The idea

In the active voice, the subject does the action: “The cat chased the mouse.” In the passive voice, the subject receives the action: “The mouse was chased by the cat.”

How to convert

  • Make the object of the active sentence the subject.
  • Use the correct form of “be” in the same tense, plus the past participle.
  • Add “by + doer” if the doer is important.
