Quantitative Reasoning
Section 3. Simple application of basic mathematical concepts.
About this section
The syllabus describes this as the “simple application of basic mathematical concepts”: arithmetic, algebra, geometry, mensuration and statistics at about Class 10 level. Speed and accuracy come from knowing a few formulas well and practising daily.
Formulas to know
- Percentage change = (change ÷ original) × 100.
- Profit % = (profit ÷ cost price) × 100.
- Simple interest = P × R × T ÷ 100; compound amount = P(1 + R/100)ⁿ.
- Speed = distance ÷ time; km/h to m/s, multiply by 5/18.
- Work: if A takes a days, A does 1/a of the work per day.
