Grammar and sentence structure
Parts of speech, agreement, tense, voice and sentence forms in Santhali, as they affect choosing and ordering words.
Why grammar matters in NCET
Grammar is not listed as a separate unit, but it sits behind “choosing the correct word”, “rearranging the parts” and sentence-level questions. A student who knows how Santhali sentences are built can spot the right answer quickly.
What to revise
- Parts of speech and how each behaves in a sentence.
- Agreement between subject and verb, and between nouns and their adjectives where Santhali requires it.
- Tense and aspect, and keeping them consistent across a sentence.
- Active and passive forms.
- Simple, compound and complex sentences, and the words that join clauses.
How to practise
Take ten sentences from a Santhali newspaper. For each, find the subject, the verb and the object, and say why the verb has the form it does.
