Questioning and feedback

Good questions and useful feedback.

Teaching Aptitude5 questions

Good questions

  • Closed questions have one correct answer (recall).
  • Open questions invite explanation, opinion or several answers (higher-order thinking).
  • Ask, pause (wait time of a few seconds), then call on a student. Wait time increases the number and quality of answers.
  • Distribute questions across the whole class.

Good feedback

Specific, timely, focused on the task, and tells the learner what to do next. “Your conclusion repeats your introduction. Add one new insight” is better than “Good” or “Weak”.
