Nature and objectives of teaching
Meaning, characteristics and objectives of teaching.
What teaching is
Teaching is a planned activity that helps learners learn. It is both an art and a science: it needs skill and creativity, and it is based on principles of how people learn. Good teaching is learner-centred, interactive, democratic and diagnostic.
Maxims of teaching
- From known to unknown.
- From simple to complex.
- From concrete to abstract.
- From particular to general.
- From whole to part (psychological) and part to whole (logical).
Objectives
Bloom’s taxonomy groups objectives into three domains: cognitive (thinking), affective (feelings and values) and psychomotor (physical skills).
